We've created this team because we want to raise much needed funding for SSI's Community Kitchen.
The fortnightly Community Kitchen is a unique project for SSI that brings people together, like Mostafa, who came to Australia seeking asylum in 2013. Mostafa's passion for cooking started very early, at just 3 years old where he enjoyed helping out in the kitchen cooking for his family.
Before arriving in Australia, Mostafa attended cooking lessons in Iran and always aspired to become a professional chef. Mostafa aspired to learn how to cook cuisines from different cultures to broaden his knowledge.
In Australia, Mostafa undertook volunteer work experience cooking for hundreds of people at the Community Kitchen. This experience and his passion and determination for cooking, has eventually led him to start his own catering business, Balute Persian Cuisine.
Mostafa and many others like him, have benefited from the Community Kitchen, a place that brings together people from different backgrounds and cultures to share experiences. It is a welcoming space where people cook, eat, dance, learn, create, have fun, meet new people, practice their English and participate in music and sporting activities.
This year, Mostafa has been inspired to participate in the City2Surf, joining the contingent of team mates for Team SSI! Help us help people like Mostafa - the more support we receive, the longer we can provide opportunities for skills development and social inclusion for our community's newcomers.
Help SSI spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
